You walk up to a skin care counter to buy a new facial mask treatment and the beauty advisor asks you "What is your skin type?" You stare back at them with a dazed and confused look.

You're not alone! Studies show that as much as 80% of women are confused about their skin type and what specialty treatments are best for them. What we are not confused about is our skin concerns; dry skin, oily skin, wrinkles, sagging, dark spots - we can rattle these off without a thought.

Sheet masks, clay masks, peeling masks and more!
Baffled by what face mask is best for your skin? These questions will help you zero in one which way to go.

  • What does your skin feel like one hour after cleansing? Dry, oily, red or irritated?
  • Do you have enlarged pores and blackheads down the center of your nose and inner cheeks?
  • What are your greatest challenges with your skin? Large pores, blackheads, dry patches, dull skin or redness?
  • How much time would you likely devote to each mask treatment? 10 minutes? 30 minutes?

Sheet Masks
If you were baffled in identifying your skin type, you may be further overwhelmed when selecting the right sheet mask. Sheet masks come in a variety of materials and treatments; paper, cotton, hydro-gel, bio-cellulose and all natural textures. However, if you answered above that you have predominantly dry skin and are happy to devote more time to each treatment then a sheet mask may be a good option for you. In general, sheet masks infuse the skin with hydrating and anti-aging ingredients while creating a barrier to help skin retain moisture. For best results, the general rule of thumb is to leave them on for a minimum of 20 minutes.

If you are challenged with oily or combination skin, clogged pores and occasional breakouts then a Purifying Mask may be the ideal treatment for you. Some of the key ingredients you should look for are Kaolin clay, glycolic and salicylic acid as well as humectants like hyaluronic acid. Salicylic acid helps to unclog pores while also reducing acne-causing bacteria. Glycolic acid removes the dulling layer of dead cells to give skin a brighter and refreshed appearance. An added benefit to glycolic acid is its ability to treat scarring, skin discoloration and fine lines. These power-packed ingredients can produce quick results so if you have ten minutes or less for your treatment, this is a great choice for you.

If your answers above included dry, irritated or sensitive skin then this type of mask will be a welcomed treat for your skin. Choosing masks with fruits and flower extracts such as our Coconut Rose Facial Masque don't just smell delightful but are an ideal way to calm angry or irritated skin while still addressing visible aging. Combine these ingredients with clay and skin compatible oils to witness a transformation in the softness and overall tone while soothing and strengthening your skin.

Exfoliate and Prep
Want to maximize your results? A few minutes is all it takes. Gently polish your skin with a gentle exfoliator to help remove dead surface cells that might block your other treatments.  Fruits such as papaya, pineapple or pumpkin contain natural enzymes that melt away dull, pore-clogging dead skin to bring out skin's natural glow.  Pumpkin is rich in Vitamins A, C and E as well as other age-fighting antioxidants to fight wrinkles, sun damage and promote collagen, to keep skin firm and fabulous.

Experience all the benefits of mask treatments and you will soon see why it is all the rage and likely not going away any time soon!
